Operating under the jurisdiction of the Planning Commission and with considerable public input, the Gullah-Geechee Land and Cultural Preservation Task Force identifies and assists in the preservation of The Gullah-Geechee culture for the purpose of detecting and resolving issues specific to its community, including, without limitation, heirs property, taxes and land use, economic and sustainability issues for an improved quality of life, and education of the community.

The Reilley and Simmons families imagined Fishcamp on Broad Creek as a place where neighbors could gather over sumptuous meals and share laughter. After restoring the original Simmons Fishing Camp building, Fishcamp on Broad Creek opened to rave reviews in October of 2016. A rich history surrounds the land and the Camp dating back to the Gullah culture. Today, we keep that family spirit alive at Fishcamp on Broad Creek with preservation of the history and historical importance of the site – in the original building now offering great seafood, and in Cap’n Charlie Simmon’s memory, great service.

This museum helps visitors gain a better understanding of the Lowcountry’s cultural heritage, history and natural beauty. Headquartered on historic Honey Horn Plantation, the museum is housed in the only remaining original plantation house on the island. The 69-acre property is covered in trails that lead along the river, featuring interpretative panels that detail the local flora and fauna.
