Situated between the Marshland and Spanish Wells neighborhoods along Broad Creek, Gardner is named after March Gardner, a Gullah man who purchased a large tract of land in the area. The community is home to some of the largest Gullah extended families on Hilton Head Island and includes the Pinefield Otter Hole Cemetery.
