Descended tells the story of Keith’s journey into his ancestral past and the journey from “property” that could be bought, sold, or traded, to being free men living independently. Descended discusses the Gullah-Geechee culture and lifestyle that his ancestors and relatives lived throughout the 20th century on a nearly all-Black island, largely free of Jim Crow segregation.
